Decks Built for Indiana Summers and Winters

Looking for deck builders in Indianapolis? Arbuckle Outdoor Living builds custom decks and repairs worn ones for homes across the area. A deck gives you a level place to sit outside when the yard slopes, the back door sits high off the ground, or you simply want room for a table and grill. We have been building outdoor spaces here since 1952, and a deck often works best as one piece of a bigger plan with a paver patio below or landscape lighting along the steps.

Treated Lumber, Cedar or Composite

Treated lumber is a common choice for decks around Indianapolis. It holds up outdoors and keeps the cost of a larger deck down. It does need sealing or staining every so often to keep it looking good.

Cedar has a warm color and a natural look many people love. It weathers to a soft gray if you leave it alone, or it can be sealed to keep its color.

Composite boards cost more up front but need less upkeep. There is no staining, and they resist the splintering and cracking that wood can show after years of Indiana sun, rain and freeze-thaw cycles. We handle composite decking installation as well as wood, and we can talk through the tradeoffs when we put together your quote.

Deck Repair for Older Decks

Not every deck needs to come out. If the frame is sound, deck repair can replace soft or split boards, tighten or replace railings and rebuild worn steps. If the damage goes deeper, we'll tell you whether repair or a new deck installation makes more sense.

Questions & Answers

Deck Building FAQs

Still have a question? Call or text (317) 374-0258

Which deck material is right for me: treated lumber, cedar or composite?

It comes down to budget, looks and upkeep. Treated lumber costs the least, cedar has a natural look, and composite needs the least care over the years. We can price more than one option so you can compare.

Do you repair decks or only build new ones?

We do both. Deck repair covers boards, railings and steps, and we will tell you if a deck is past the point where repair is worth it.

Can you build a deck and a patio as one project?

Yes. A deck that steps down to a patio works well on a sloped lot, and it's easier when your deck contractors also build the patio, because the levels and transitions line up. Learn more about our hardscape installation work.

Do you handle permits for decks?

Yes. We take care of the permits for your deck project, so you're not chasing paperwork.

Do I need HOA approval for a new deck?

Many Indianapolis-area HOAs review decks before they are built, so it is smart to check your HOA rules early. We are happy to work from any requirements they give you.
