Lawn Drainage Solutions
Stop Standing Water in Your Yard
Arbuckle Outdoor Living offers French drain installation and other lawn drainage solutions for yards in Indianapolis. Central Indiana's heavy clay soil does not drain quickly, so rain can sit in low spots, soak a yard for days and wash out beds. We install French drains, channel and trench drains, downspout extensions, buried downspouts, sub drains and grading to move water where it should go. Drainage also matters behind retaining walls and under paver patios.
What’s Included
Yard Drainage Solutions We Install
French Drains
A gravel trench with a perforated pipe that collects water and carries it away.
Downspout Extensions
Extensions that carry roof water away from the house instead of dumping it at the corner.
Buried Downspouts
Downspout lines run underground so water moves away without pipes across the yard.
Grading and Sub Drains
Reshaping the ground and adding sub drains so water flows away from problem spots.
Channel and Trench Drains
A slotted drain set into pavers or another hard surface that catches water running across a hard surface.

French Drain Installation
A French drain is a trench filled with gravel around a perforated pipe. Water soaks into the gravel, enters the pipe and flows to a better spot. It is a common fix for a soggy strip of yard or a low area that collects water after every storm.

Channel and Trench Drains
Hard surfaces shed water fast. When rain runs down a driveway, patio or walkway toward the garage, the house or a low corner, a channel drain (also called a trench drain) catches it. It is a narrow drain set flush into the surface with a grate on top, and it carries the water to a pipe that sends it somewhere better. We set channel drains into new hardscape installation projects and add them to surfaces that already have a water problem.

Buried Downspout Lines
Roof gutters collect a lot of water. When a downspout empties right next to the house, that water can pool and wear away beds. Downspout extensions help, and a buried downspout carries the water underground and out of the way.

Yard Grading
Sometimes the ground itself slopes the wrong way. Yard grading reshapes the soil so water runs away from the house, patio or garden instead of toward it. Grading is often paired with a drain to handle what the slope alone cannot.

Why does water pool in my yard?
Usually it is a mix of low spots, slopes that run the wrong way and slow-draining clay soil, which is common around Indianapolis. Downspouts emptying in the wrong place can add to it.
What is a French drain?
A gravel-filled trench with a perforated pipe that collects water from soggy ground and carries it to a better spot.
Can you put a drain across my driveway or patio?
Yes. A channel or trench drain sits flush with the surface and catches water before it reaches the garage, the house or a low spot. We can build one into new pavers or add one to an existing surface.
Can you extend or bury my downspouts?
Yes. We install downspout extensions and buried downspouts to carry roof water away from the house.
Do you regrade yards?
Yes. Grading reshapes the yard so water flows away from where you do not want it. It often pairs with a drain. Planning a bigger change? Start with landscape design.
Will a yard drain fix a wet basement?
We're a yard drainage contractor, so we can't promise a fix for a basement. Moving water away from the house is generally a good idea, but basement leaks can have other causes worth checking with a specialist.
