Retaining Walls

Walls That Hold a Slope and Frame the Yard

Looking for retaining wall contractors in Indianapolis? Arbuckle Outdoor Living builds durable walls that hold back a sloped yard, level out space for a patio or frame a raised garden bed. We build with block, natural stone and boulders, and we repair walls that lean, bulge or have loose blocks. Walls are part of our hardscape installation work, so they can be planned alongside the patio, steps and plantings around them.

Retaining Wall Contractors for Every Kind of Yard

Landscape Retaining Walls

Retaining wall installation covers two kinds of walls. Low garden and terrace walls shape the yard. They raise a planting bed, edge a patio or turn a gentle slope into a few usable levels. Many double as extra seating.

Walls That Hold Grade

On a steeper slope, a wall holds back soil and creates flat ground where there wasn't any. These walls carry real pressure from the soil and water behind them, so the base, the backfill and the drainage matter more than the face you see.

Natural Stone and Boulder Retaining Walls

Not every wall needs to look like block. A natural stone retaining wall blends into beds and plantings, and a boulder retaining wall suits larger slopes and yards with a more natural feel. We'll help you weigh the look and the space each one needs.

Drainage Behind the Wall

Water is the main reason retaining walls fail. Central Indiana's clay soil holds water, and when it builds up behind a wall and freezes, it pushes the wall forward. A well-built wall gives that water a way out through drainage material behind it and a path away from the base. If your yard has bigger water problems, our lawn drainage solutions can handle them with the wall.

Retaining Wall Repair

A wall that leans, bulges or drops blocks usually has a base or drainage problem behind it. Retaining wall repair often means taking down the failed section, fixing what's behind it and rebuilding it straight. We'll look at the cause and tell you what it needs.

Still have a question? Call or text (317) 374-0258

Do I need a retaining wall?

If a slope is washing out, you want flat space for a patio or lawn, or soil is creeping onto a walkway, a wall is worth a look. A free quote is a good way to find out.

Can you fix a retaining wall that is leaning?

Yes, we repair retaining walls. Most leaning walls have a base or drainage problem, so we fix the cause and rebuild the failed section.

How do you keep water from building up behind a wall?

We give water a way out with drainage material behind the wall and a route away from the base. Wet yards may also need French drains or grading.

Can a retaining wall double as seating?

Yes. A low wall at seat height around a patio or fire pit gives you built-in seating.

Are retaining walls covered by a warranty?

Yes. Retaining walls are hardscape work, which carries a warranty on our labor.
