Paver Driveways Built to Carry the Weight

A paver driveway is the first thing people see when they pull up to your house, and it takes more abuse than any other part of the yard. Arbuckle Outdoor Living builds custom paver driveways in pavers only, on a base sized for the weight of cars and trucks. Driveways are part of our hardscape installation work, so the drive, the front walk and the beds along it can be planned as one project.

Why We Build Driveways With Pavers

We don't do concrete work, and a driveway is one of the best reasons to choose pavers anyway. A poured slab is one rigid piece, so when the ground moves through a freeze-thaw winter, it cracks. Pavers are separate units locked together, so the surface can flex a little without breaking. If a section ever settles or a paver gets stained or chipped, it can be lifted out and reset instead of patched.

Driveway pavers also come in plenty of shapes, colors and patterns, so the drive can match the brick, stone or siding on the house instead of looking like an afterthought.

Paver Driveway Contractors Who Start Underneath

A driveway carries far more weight than a patio, and every car turns its wheels in the same spots day after day. That's why the base matters more here than anywhere else. A good paver driveway contractor digs deeper, builds up the base in layers and compacts each one before a single paver goes down. Central Indiana's clay soil holds water, so a thin or soft base lets the surface sink into ruts. Solid edging along the sides keeps the pavers from spreading out over time.

Driveway Paver Patterns and Borders

Pattern isn't only about looks on a driveway. A herringbone pattern locks the pavers together in two directions, which helps them resist the twisting of tires as cars turn. A border in a contrasting color frames the drive and gives the edges extra strength. We'll go over patterns, colors and border options with you when we plan the job.

Drainage for a Paver Driveway

Water has to go somewhere. Every paver driveway we build is graded so rain runs off toward the street or the yard instead of toward the garage or the house. Where a drive slopes down to a garage or water collects at a low spot, a channel drain set across the pavers catches it. Our lawn drainage solutions page covers channel drains, French drains and grading in more detail.

Watch a Paver Driveway Go In

This time-lapse shows the parts of a paver driveway installation that end up buried: the dig-out, the base going in and getting compacted, and then the pavers being laid and locked in. It's the same process we follow on every driveway.

Paver Driveway FAQ

Still have a question? Call or text (317) 374-0258

Do you pour concrete driveways?

No. We don't do concrete work of any kind. Every driveway we build is laid in pavers over a compacted base.

Are pavers a good choice for a driveway in Indiana?

Yes. Built on a deep, compacted base with good drainage, a paver driveway handles central Indiana's clay soil and freeze-thaw winters well, and repairs are simpler than on a cracked slab.

Which paver pattern is best for a driveway?

Herringbone is the most common choice for driveways because it interlocks in two directions and holds up to turning tires. We'll show you options when we plan your drive.

What does a paver driveway cost?

Paver driveway cost depends on the size of the drive, the pavers and pattern you choose, how much digging and base work the site needs and how the water has to be handled. Your free quote gives you a price for your own driveway.

Can you add a walkway that ties into the driveway?

Yes. We can run a paver walkway from the drive to the front door or a side gate in a matching or contrasting paver. See our paver patios and walkways page for more.

Does a paver driveway come with a warranty?

Yes. Driveways are hardscape work, and our hardscape installs carry a warranty on labor. We'll explain what it covers with your quote.
